Siddhartha

1. Why does Siddhartha leave his father?

Siddhartha left his father because, he got depressed with his lifestyle, he found out that, all his self control is absolutely nothing and can never lead him to achieve salvation. He decided to leave teachings for traveling in order to find salvation by himself or die.

2. What are some of the reasons why writers like Herman Hesse would be interested in Eastern philosophy and Religion.

Herman Hesse was interested because, (1) There was a rejection towards western religion and culture at the time Dada artists were producing there works (2) There was a rage against the upper class of the German society such as, merchants, public officials, and priests.(3) German at that time was going through a time of terrific instability, and many groups were calling for revolution.

3. If Siddhartha never lived with Kamala and the people in the society would he have reached Enlightenment faster?

No, Siddhartha characterizes his time with Kamala and the people in the society as a learning experience

4. What is the significance of the river?

The significance of the river indicates something else that represent the fullness of existence and oneness. Something that cannot be taught but experienced. Siddhartha compared his life to the life of river that the river is everywhere at once. " and that there is only the present time for it, not the shadow of the past, not the shadow of the future

8. Who is Vadudeva?

Vasudeva was the ferryman Siddhartha met when he first began his journey. It is the name of the father of krishna and has long ago realized the same truth Siddhartha just realized. Siddhartha suspects him to be a god or the river itself

Siddhartha

" I'm not kidding. I'm telling you what I've found. knowledge can be conveyed, but not wisdom. it can be found, it can be lived, it is possible to be carried by it, miracles can performed with it, but it cannot be expressed in words and taught. this was what I, even as a young man, sometimes suspected, what has driven me away from the teachers. I have found a thought, Govinda, which you'll again regard as a joke or foolishness, but which is my best thought. It says: The opposite of every truth is just as true! That's like this: any truth can only be expressed and put into words when it is one sided. Everything is one-sided which can be thought with thoughts and said with words, it's all one sided, all just one half, all lacks completeness, roundness, oneness. When the exalted Gotama spoke in his teachings of the world, he had to divide it into Sansara and Nirvana, into deception and truth, into suffering and salvation. It cannot be done differently, there is no other way for him who wants to teach. But the world itself, what exists around us and inside of us, is never one-sided. A person or an act is never entirely Sansara or entirely Nirvana, a person is never entirely holy or sinful. It does really seem like this, because we are subject to deception, as if time was something real. Time is not real, Govinda, I have experienced this often and often again. And if time is not real, then the gap which seems to be between the world and the eternity, between suffering and blissfulness, between evil and good, i also a deception".

2,
This passage clearly explained the difference between having an experience and wisdom. People can learn and also be thought from experience, while wisdom cannot be thought or learned. The passage also uncover what is know as truth. Truth can only be true and and always one sided. If a truth or any other meaningful things has other side of the meaning, then it lacks oneness, completeness and roundness.

3,
I was able to think and rethink, anything truth should be pure and not being attached to any other things. There must not be other meaning to truth. it's like calling a spade  "a spade."

DADAISM

"The reason for doing it is the desire to create. I've got to do it!"
 By Otto Dix

The main reason for doing anything is the desire to achieve some result either positively or negatively. Otto Dix has the desire to use artistic project to convey messages to the public. He made a confirmed statement of his action to do whatever he is so desired to do.

Moreover, i agree with this quote, because it shows the confidence in anybody that agree to pursue his desire. This quote relates to so many things at present because, there must be a strong desire for every activities, in order to achieve the desired result.

DADAISM

       John Heartfield,
He is one the creative artists, born as the name Helmut Herzfelde in Berlin in 1891. He lost his parents at the early age. He served as an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Wiesbaden in 1905-06, before going to Munich to study at the "Kunstgewerbeschule" from 1908 to 1911. He returned to Berlin, following a brief interval as a graphic artist in Mannheim. In 1915-16 He was inducted for active service into the German armed forces in 1915 -16. He protested against anti-British, he was so annoyed at the them and changed his name to John Heartsfield for the rest of his life. He became a follower of the Dada movement in Berlin in 1917 and joined the German Communist Party (KPD) in the same year. John Heartfield played a major role in the Dada Movement, however, he learned techniques and styles from many other artists who expressed their political ideas through art. Influenced mostly by the early Dadaists, he adapted their style to portray his art. These are some of Heartfield's colleagues and other people who effected his art; Max Ernst, George Grosz, Richard Huelsenbeck and Raoul Hausmann.

Some of the Artworks

Police Commissioner Zorgiebe  (1929).

Self portrait with Police Commissioner

It was used as apolitical cartoon in Berlin's Arbeiter-Zerlung (AIZ)It shows Heartfields obvious dislike of a man who supported the Nazi party.

        And yet it moves (1943)
This piece refers to a comment made by Galileo, when he was asked by force to deny his believe that the earth moved around the sun. Upon his release from the investigation, he pounded the earth with his foot and said " And yet it moves".

The image shows that, despite the Hitler's terror, the world survived

The meaning of Hitler Salute 1932

Little man ask for big gifts. Motto: Millions stand behind me

A sign of loyalty to the leader by the Nazi. it shows that money fuels the political power, by implying that the Nazi's salute is in fact , a plea for cash
